המשחק החדש אשר ממשיך את אחד מהסימולטורים הטובים ביותר אי פעם, IL-2 Strumovik. המשחק מוצג כ"תוספת עומדת בפני עצמה", או מעין משחק המשך, אבל השם מטעה - עשרים משימות ענקיות, אזורים חדשים המשתרעים על כל אזור סקנדינביה וכל אזור המפרץ הפיני. שיפורים חשובים באינטיליגנציה המלאכותית, במנוע הגרפי ובכמות הבניינים והמטוסים רק יהפכו את המשחק למורכב ויפה יותר.

The new game has some old problems from the original, and some of the new features aren't quite up to snuff. If you consider Forgotten Battles simply to be a new game in its own right, things look much better--the game features exciting combat, a wealth of fascinating aircraft, careful attention to detail, varied missions and maps, outstanding visuals, and more. Forgotten Battles doesn't make the sort of huge impact that the original game did, but, despite its faults, it's generally a very worthy successor.
